Learning Environment

We believe in the power of play and its ability to educate and challenge. When children engage in play, they are creating meaning from the world around them. Children learn in many different ways and need to re-visit their play as their ideas grow and change. Play helps children make sense of the world in which they are living and growing. Lifelong skills that are developed by play are:

By providing a learning environment that is educationally inviting and relevant to our children and their families, we are encouraging each child to discover and develop their interests and abilities. Our preschool has a spacious, light-filled room that is set up with a variety of inviting activities. We have a large library of books, games, manipulative toys, music, art and collage materials. The children and staff like to maintain a balance between busy and quiet activities during the day. During the day, children are offered a mix of free-choice and planned activities. We follow a daily routine and program that is modified according to circumstances e.g. weather changes. Our preschool community believes that the outdoor environment should complement the indoor environment. We are aware that sun protection is a priority and strive to maintain an appealing balance of plants and shade structure. Our children love the outdoor area swing. The sandpit, digging patch, obstacle course and "fern jungle" are some of their favourite places.
